Aphasia New Music Group
Bloomsbury Theatre and Studio, WC1H 0AH , [Venue Details]An inspirational evening of new music, written and performed by people with language difficulties, professional musicians, and speech and language therapists.
The Aphasia New Music Group unites people with language difficulties, professional musicians, and speech and language therapists. We write and perform new music together.
The group started in January 2023. Since then, we have put on concerts, taken workshops around the country, and carried out research into our work. At this event we will share the music we have made recently and talk about our experiences. For the first time, we are inviting a drummer, guitar player and bassist to join us and develop our sound. We have also been working with artist Eilish Briscoe to add a visual element to the concert.
We believe music making is good for everyone. For people living with aphasia, it can have a positive impact on communication skills, social networks, quality of life and wellbeing. We also hope our music is enjoyable and inspiring to others.
We are generously supported by the City Bridge Foundation, a private donor and the Tavistock Trust for Aphasia. Profits from entrance fees will be used to fund future sessions of the Aphasia New Music Group.
